End of year report on 2009 goals

Well I logged onto here today in the attempt to start afresh and list my goals for 2010. I read down through my old posts and realised that I had done an end of year report for 2008 and had tracked each one of my goals for 2008 but I hadn't done that for 2009... and consequently hadn't achieved any one of them!

So just for record keeping sake here is an end of year report on 2009's goals:

1. Get a new job (or career) - well I didn't managed to do that but I did manage to get a fresh perspective and an attitude change. I can now say that I love my job! I love the people that I work with and really enjoy the working environment that I am part of.

2. Lose 20kgs - when I first read this goal again today, I thought "Failed" didn't do that at all! But that is simply not true. This time last year I weighed 125kg ( I was pregnant) and now I weigh 112kg - so although I didn't hit the 20kg mark I lost weight and I didn't gain any!!

3. Spend more time with mum and dad - I didn't really put my effort into this one. To be honest I completely forgot that I had set that as a goal for myself! When I had my son in March of this year I drove up north and spent a few days with Mum and Dad and then Dad came down here about a month after that. Our daughter went and spent two weeks with mum and dad in September for her holidays from Punanga Reo.

4. be a better friend - on the surface it didn't appear that I had done this at all and in my heart of hearts I know that I didn't do this one. I spent a night in January with Piri when she was down in Otaki at her sister Helena's house. Then when Rongotai was about three months or so old I went over with Te Ata and we stayed for two nights with Richard, Piri and Taikura. I'm pretty sure that's the last time I actually saw her. It was a great weekend though. We didn't really leave the farm, not even for a spa at Kurawaka, something that was always part of the ritual of going to Porangahau.

I caught up with Shannon one day on a weekend that she was down in Palmerston North doing Police 10/7. That was awesome. It made me truly appreciate the advances of technology. We hadn't seen each other for nearly a complete decade, however because of email, Bebo and Facebook we were able to keep in touch with each others lives

At the beginning of 2009 Saffron, Chris and their two beautiful chillen's Caelen and Siahn came and spent a week with us. It was Saff's first visit to me in Whanganui ever and it was really awesome to spend quality time with them after so long. Just after I had Rongotai, the three of us (Sans Jay) travelled up to the Wiggles because Saffron and Chris had got Te Ata a ticket to it. It was really awesome :)

I also made a really good friend this year, Delyse Brooks. I feel as though she's gonna be a friend for life. We are like kindred spirits. She introduced me to Louise Hay and her philosophies and I have never felt more emotionally secure and calm.

The goal to travel to the Gold Coast just didn't happen for a number of reasons. The main one was that we didn't really want to go in the end. Shauny (Jay's brother) had moved to Perth and there is some awkwardness around his new daughter. Malarie (Jay's sister) had moved back home and Te Ariki had been living here since the end of 2008 so apart from our beautiful niece there was really no reason to go over.

In retrospect (which is always a wonderful thing) I can say that the reason why I didn't achieve the goals was because I wasn't SMART - that is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timeframed for most of them - Like the goal to "Be a better friend" is just so vague. There was no way of measuring whether I had done that.

Another major and in contrast to 2008 was because I hadn't done regular updates. So that needs to be a major feature of 2010. At least monthly I will get on here and update where I am at.

Right - let's go!!
